Today was another great day in Obaga. We got to visit a village on the coast of Lake Victoria. It was crazy seeing how the people of this village live. We visited a school and an organization that takes care of widows and orphans, by growing crops and selling them to provide for the women and kids. Its always great to see Kenyans stepping up and taking care of Kenyans and not relying on US money nor government money (which there never is any).
We then got to go to the Aram Marketplace which is where the widows of Obaga go to sell things to earn a little money. Just enough to get them to the next market day. They literally live market day to market day (market is every Monday and Thursdays). After we spent a little time at the market, we went back to Thomas Agutu's property where the widows were meeting and they were preparing a meal for all of the orphan kids at the Obaga Primary School. Next thing you knew, there were about 100 kids in uniforms waiting for a meal. My boys got to serve each and every orphan today. It was really cool.
After the meal, we broke out about 15 frisbees, a couple soccer balls and jump ropes. IT WAS CRAZY!
Then it happened..... Kyce was playing frisbee and went to catch one and twisted his ankle....BAD!!!
It swelled up immediately to the size of a baseball and I just knew he had broken it. Thankfully, we had a nurse with us that was staying at the Baptist Camp. God's Providence is AMAZING! She took action, we got Kyce back to the camp, put ice on his ankle (ice is very rare in Kenya), and got the swelling down. Thankfully his ankle is not broken, but really sprained bad. The camp is about to open a new clinic and they had ACE bandages and crutches that we could take with us. AMEN!
Kyce will get the next 2 days off as we head out on a Safari and will be in a van touring most of the time. Whew - Dodged that bullet. Thank You Lord for watching over us!
